Have you seen my other blog - Burfila - ?

05 February 2006

are we doing the correct pronunciations?

"lingerie isn't pronounced the way we think it is at all

It's not 'lon-je-ree' or 'lon-je-rey'. It's lan-jree"

though prashant wasn't very amused with my revelation of this new find of mine. this brings me to what i am reading these days: 'a year in merde' by stephen clarke.

this brings me to the reaction of a friend of mine which went somewhat like, 'the book is nice read but it seems that the writer is obsessed with sex...' which brings me to the veil of hypocrisy that females don't seems to do away with. i am pretty sure that this friend would have totally enjoyed all the references to nudity or his accounts of shagging. and mind you, i have been through three fourths of the book and i have not found one instance where the author has described his carnal acts in an erotic fashion. i mean, all his elucidations have been funny and double-worded. it seems that they seem to dislike it [in public] no matter what veil you try to wrap it under. they won't be frank [true] with you and they would experience a sense of utter contentment over the fact that they have been conferred with the title of mother mary the third the moment you drop your decision of arguing to save yourself from the uneasiness of fretting as the result of the bout of [foreseen and unseen] irritation.

but the point is that there is no point pondering over this issue because females will be females and their hypocrisy at best could be vanity.

but this novel is a funny read nonetheless.

  • having the benefit of telling (to your readers) just one line spoken by your friends with them having no chance of listening and understanding the point of the "freind" albeit a bit through this comment..I think it is rather your hypocricy to not accept the fact (just because you cant imagine this virtue of character) that at times even sex can be too much,(if u actually read it correctly even the protagonist starts realising it..but mayb u too like him were too obsessed with sex..reading sex oops!!),for those who dont know abt this novel and havent read it ,it starts with the protagonist going to paris to "check out the 'lan-jeree' despite career troubles and fitting in an alien environment especially being a british in france(they are almost enemies for those who didnt know)..he then goes around f###ing about half a dozen girls per week not to mention many one night stands...anyways a bit of it is almost a necessary element but it CAN(for some people) be too much at times, and it is sheer hypocricy to not accept that its rather you who acts as a total hypocrist...in any case the friend recommnded this book because the sole purpose of literary pieces like these is not to arouse eroticism but to just notice the other things as well...frankly for me I dont need to read a book to enjoy the thought of it or better put."enjoy all the references to nudity or his accounts of shagging..."I think it is more enjoyable to think or imagine or dream whatever "eroticism" that I may please...by the way it is incomplete without the second part whcih is "merde actually"..enjoy.

  • Duh! Why would I post as Anon? And why cant two people agree on disagreeing with you?

And my dear Anon, I dont think I need to make Burf see anything... books are for people to read and make out of it whatever they want to. We cant dictate what others see in things, really...
But I do understand what you are trying to say.
