how many times have you taken constructive criticism and not given it out readily ,even without being asked for it? How many times have you not judged and at the same time hated to be judged? and who actually decides which criticism is 'constructive' or not? the critic himself?? could it be possible what is 'constructive' to you could be harsh and not well thought through criticism for the person criticised?
anony, kesh - i would rather have a friend who i can criticise than one to whom i can always be rosy. ppl who dont criticise are not friends they never teach u anything
** And sometimes your friends are not criticising you, they're being downright mean!
well-said SOO.
Criticising a friend constructively doesnt mean this:
"how dumb r u? u dun even know how to link up a site address - no wonder ur country is going down in IT!".
Cos that's being very mean and distasteful.
The 'constructive criticism' version of that line wud be:
"I think it wud help if u learn how to link up sites...makes life so much easier for everyone blondy" :)
Thats humor and not being mean.
If u dunno the difference then u dunno the art of healthy criticism. Thats all there is to it. And if u cant admit what Im saying Burfy, then u got an ego issue. :0)

I like what the anonymous commentor said above. Cos what's 'constructive' to u, may not be so to the other.
