five

i think i can't ever grow up. i still feel irritated and i still am confused over things about life that i have been confident about getting under my belt. but then i guess it is how it is. stranger is confused too. but i guess kids nowadays are smart. they figure out thing fast. i guess she has started expecting things out of life and here is where the problem lies. you start asking "why's" and then start expecting their answers too.

it is monday morning but today i am feeling sleepy.

saturday night prashant gifted me five point someone by chetan. i completed it yesterday night. a very nice masala (had everything - buds, booze, paranthas, scooter rides, movies at priya and the darling) story. i liked it because technically a) it was written in simple language and the writer dint seem to aim for man booker prize for his story through his ornamentalistic rosy writing b) it was set in delhi so i identified with the places and the life and the girl ;-) and students and else...

philosophically - it was simple and beautiful. it was about a guy, his 2 buddies and his girl. the relationship between guys was so kool. and the romance was so uncomplicated yet messed up. you can completely identify with ways of the girl and the friends. you just seem to pine for such beautiful friends (even when you have some) and want to be into such a beautiful relationship with a girl. i liked the honesty about everyone and everything.

  • sounds like a good book,i too am reading a book called "a year in merdde" by stephen clarke, merde meaning shit in french and the book is about a brit and his ordeals in Paris ,his difficulties with french ,the language ,the people etc etc and I (though not a brit) relate so well to it,sometimes its like as though i wdd have written that book about my encounters though he seems to be obsessed with sex but otherwise its agood read,it also has a sequel called "merde actually" if anyone is interested in knowing how life for a friend of urs living in Paris could be this one deserves a read...
    anyways enjoy ..

  • Hey came here for the first time...have been reading ur comments on Prashant's and Richa's blogs though!

I have read this book and I kinda liked it...the reasons are more or less same as urs...set up in Delhi...talks about IIT hostels (I am not an IITian though I know their hostels)..written in a very casual manner i would say...simple and uncomplicated language...On the whole a good time pass I would say!!!

  • 100 pages of FPS completed... was dead tired yesterday but still read for 30 minutes...

    liking it...

ON@TCC was a good read too... however it started with something close to reality and ended up having loads of fiction !!!

still worth a read especially for ppl like me who do not understand a lot of english written together.. what i loved is the simplicity of the book !!!!

  • @alice - sure. which one - yuganta or 5 point someone?

By Blogger burf, at October 27, 2005 1:53 PM

  • five point someone first...

By Blogger alice, at October 27, 2005 8:07 PM

  • @alice - sure, how?

By Blogger burf, at October 27, 2005 8:52 PM

  • I've heard from too many people that Five Point Someone is a "decent enough" read, but somehow that's exactly what puts me off. I can't bring myself to read books that are over-hyped... of course, some people would say they deserve the hype, and I can understand their saying that but... dunno, somehow I've never much liked such books. The Inscrutable Americans, most Paulo Coelho books [except Veronika Decides to Die - THAT was beautiful].... pretty long list.

PLUS I've got a huge stack of nice, bulky books I wanna finish first. Well, then I'll take up FPS I guess. Can't remain the only one in my generation who hasn't read it :)

  • @ami - the same can be said about the da vinci code, it is over-hyped and i feel that this hype is a bit over but that doesnt undo the quality of the product that it truly deserves. but i mean that the hype doesnt undermines or augment the true quality of it. the same goes for FPS. it seems to have been read even by those who aren't into reading.

  • @Burf: Ok I borrowed FPS from a friend yesterday and read it... and sadly, my apprehension turned out to be true. Just not worth it, in my opinion.

The DaVinci Code is a totally different matter, man! Extremely-hyped, sure, but look at the amount of research & thinking that's gone into it. FPS can't even be compared with it! Anyways, just my opinion. To each their own :)
