being anonymous
some days back i was asked why should anonymous comments be allowed on one's blog. so here is my technical analysis of the question.
blog is a public domain entity so when you decide on signing up with a blogging service that do not provide authenticated viewing of one's blog then it means you are doing it with an intention of general public viewing it and reacting over it. there are some services with are either paid or unpaid on which you can select who views your blog or not. blogger.com is not one of them.
but it is natural that one might be concerned about getting offended or abused or even heavily criticised(my oldest friends and visitors know this ;)) if one decides to allow general public to view and/or comment on the blog. but following are the 2 reasons why i still would persist with allowing the anonymous commenting:-
1. if i have a blog and have registered myself with, say, livejournal.com i probably would like to read and react to some interesting blogger on xanga.com or blogger.com but would not necessarily register with these services just for the sake of commenting.
2. i can easily delete an offending or abusive comment to my post on my blog.
also, you could be totally anonymous (you can keep your profile blank) if you do not want someone to have you in his/her mind before getting harsh (not according to your liking) with his/her commenting.
but at the end i would like to quote an example of a very talented babe who has a very genuine reason to block anonymous commenting. she is a talented photographer and someone was stealing her content (according to her old post). although i am still not sure as to how blocking commenting would stop someone from stealing content but now she would have some idea as to who is trying to strike a conversation with her and whatever...
hope my argument makes some sense and also, i hope that the above text was purely technical as i tried not to be prejudiced.

ha!ha!
i did not see this coming.
i'm guessing my question provoked u to make this post so i "could not resist the urge to comment" :)
your analysis is perfectly fine(minus any prejudice).but I am not comfortable with the idea of anony comments because i don't think i write for 'public viewing' even though public CAN view it.it is just a by-product of the whole thing.
and if i have absolutely no idea about who is commenting on my blog then i don't really care about what he/she has to say irrespective of the nature of the comment(positive or negative). but if i can at least see someone's profile and check out his/her blog i am more comfortable.
as far as my disliking someone's commenting on my blog is concerned...ignorance works mighty well.
